We all love a good origin story.
Luke Skywalker was raised by his aunt and uncle in Tatooine, blissfully unaware of his father's true identity. Harry Potter got his start at The Cupboard Under the Stairs, 4 Privet Drive, Little Whinging, Surrey. And Alpinecho? Well, we're still writing our story, but living among boxes is a major theme.
We’ve carried boxes from one room to the next. We’ve taped boxes and untaped them (oops). We’ve rested our weary feet on boxes and watched dramatic cooking shows through a hole in the boxes. Ryan and I have been living in a cardboard city.
Sometimes I hesitate to share the fact that we're still operating out of our home. I wonder if potential clients will take us seriously and trust our ability to fulfill orders. But Yvon Chouinard (founder of Black Diamond and Patagonia) began with a second-hand coal-fired forge set up in a chicken coop in his parents’ backyard (source). Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley began Marmot with parkas and sleeping bags they made in their dorm room (source). And we all know how Steve Jobs started Apple in his childhood garage (source).
When you think about it, this is the American dream. You can start a thriving business from your garage, dorm or chicken coop. This is our origin story and we welcome you into our home.
Please, pull up a box and make yourself comfortable.
This recent Wes Anderson video trend is a great way to share what we’ve been up to lately. Give The Grand Box Hotel (No Vacancies) film a watch.
